A letter from the studio

I am Ugur Yildiz. Ektequnst is my studio, and FeudalSim is the game I am making there. This is the short version of why.

The studio

Ektequnst

Ektequnst is my studio. In public it lives at uguryildiz.nl, which is also my portfolio as a developer and designer. FeudalSim is made by Ektequnst. That is me, at the desk, for as long as this takes.

The why

A worldwide Renaissance

FeudalSim was born from my love of the Renaissance as a worldwide era, a time when so much happened at once, across seas and faiths and languages. I am a genuine history geek. Friends joke that I am a walking encyclopedia. The joke is fair. I love the research, and I like to see both sides of a story.

This game is the outlet for that. It is where I pour my full creativity, and the slow work of historical reconstruction, into something I can enjoy, and that a community of developers, gamers, and designers who love historic-realism games can enjoy with me.

Three cities from the art already in the library. The Renaissance I care about does not sit in one of them alone.

The dedication

In honour of Numiiiv

I am continuing this project in honour of Numiiiv.

Numiiiv backed an earlier Kickstarter for FeudalSim. That campaign did not succeed. Afterwards, he sent me money out of his own pocket. At the time I could not give much back. My private life had taken a hard turn. I was going through a heavy period, and then through recovery and reintegration.

I am grateful. The work is also simply this compelling. I am seeing it through in his honour.

The earlier campaign is still there to read.

Where it is going

Still on the road

FeudalSim is a passion project and a hobby. The build is not always stable. I will keep going until the game does what it promises.

The town is ahead. The road is the work.

It's a work in progress.
